N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Jamestown Public School’s have seen an initial increase of students for the school year.

According to Superintendent Robert Lech, A total of 2,181 students have enrolled in K-12 for the year. That’s up 64 students from last year, which had 2,104 students. According to the report, K-5 had an increase of 15 students this year, 6-8 had an increase of 22 students, and 9-12 had an increase of 27 students.

“While it will likely change slightly as new students are trickling in, these were the numbers I presented to the board.” Superintendent Lech stated.

Lech also stated that the enrollment and growth will be impacting school funding.

“The majority of people that I visit with believe that the higher student numbers should be helping our financial issues and it is actually the opposite, at least in the short-term.”

The school is provided state aid based off of numbers from enrollment last year and with the increase in students, additional expenses will incur. Jamestown School’s began on August 25th.
