(NewsDakota.com) In an effort to continually keep students and staff safe in the event of an emergency, the Oakes Public Schools scheduled a drill which took place Thursday, and have scheduled another for next week.

Superintendant Josh Johnson said in a notice to all parents and guardians of the district Thursday afternoon that the schools took part in a successful tornado drill Thursday afternoon; which lasted around 15 minutes. An evacuation emergency drill is scheduled to take place next week, and last about 20 minutes in length. Johnson notes the schools are required to practice these types of drills several times throughout the year.

Anyone with questions is asked to contact Johnson, or any of the school principals.
