(NewsDakota.com) – For the third straight season the Concordia (MN) Cobbers started their season with a big win over the University of Jamestown Jimmies this time it was a 40-13 victory. Concordia is coming off back-to-back 8-2 seasons while finishing third in the competitive MIAC of the NCAA DIII. The loss drops Jamestown to 0-2 on the early season and they now have two weeks off before hosting Waldorf on September 20th.

Concordia scored 19 second quarter points including a back breaking 43-yard field goal on the halves final snap following Jamestown’s first score with just 35 seconds left in the half. Beau Eriksson threw the first of his two touchdowns to TE Gavin Farley on third down from the Cobber 12-yard line.

A long pass play in the final seconds set up the field goal which made it 26-7 into the break.

Jamestown got a late touchdown on a 64-yard pass from Eriksson to Mike Sena, but the game was already out of reach. The Cobbers rolled up 291 yards on the ground, which is a bit different from how they have beaten the Jimmies in the past. Griffin Neal was 14-22 for 224 yards and a touchdown.

Eriksson and offense was much better this week with 331 yards and 254 coming from Erkisson threw the air. The running game never got started with Chris Johnson only picking up six carries on five attempts, none of which came in the second half. But offensive coordinator Josh Kittel was able to get him the ball in the passing game with four catches for 84 yards.
