(NewsDakota.com) The Oakes High School volleyball team started District 5 play Thursday night with a three games to one loss to LaMoure.

LaMoure won by scores of 25-18, 20-25, 25-21 and 25-21 to give Oakes their first loss of the season. Oakes now stands at 2-1 overall, with an 0-1 mark in Class B District 5. The Tornadoes will head to Casselton Saturday to participate in the Central Cass Tournament, before heading to Milnor to take on the Bison on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, the Oakes High School football team will take the field at home Friday night as they welcome Linton-HMB to Cummings Field. Oakes has started the season with a solid 2-0 record, which included a 48-0 drumming of Ellendale-Edgeley-Kulm last week.

The Tornadoes are ranked as the second best team in Class A football, but will have their first real test against the Lions, who defeated Oakes in both contests last year by a combined total of just eight points.

Coverage of Oakes/Linton-HMB starts at 6:30 p.m. on KDDR-AM 1220/95.9 FM and NewsDakota.com with kickoff scheduled for 7 p.m.
