CITY,N.D. (NewsDakota.com) The Valley City Hi-Liners football team maybe moving West.
At Wednesday’s North Dakota High School Activates Association board meeting a new proposal that would realign the AA division for 2015-2016 seasons was introduced. The new zoning would have VCHS football playing in the West Region.
If the final vote goes through on October the 15th, the Hi-Liners will find themselves with a very heavy travel schedule. While there closest game would be against Central Dakota, an easy 50 mile trip to Cooperstown, five of the Hi-Liners new region opponents would be over 200 miles from Valley City. Bismarck St. Mary’s is the only other team in the west that would keep the Hi-Liners within 130 miles of home.
The extended travel for the Hi-liners would not only be costly to the schools pocket book, but would take class time away from the football players. The average trip for the Hi-Liners in the West Region would be nearly four hours long.
The last day for the Hi-Liners to opt up a region would be September 20th. If nothing changes, the proposal for next season would take effect October 15th at the NDHSAA board meeting.
