N.D. (NewsDakota.com) After starting region play 0-2, the Valley City High School football team fought back into playoff contention with a 52-7 victory over Maple Valley/Enderlin.

Maple Valley opened up the scoring when they caught the Hi-Liners off guard with a half back pass from Corby Richman to Peter Lindgren that went 31 yards for the score.

After shaking off the school bus travels, Valley City came out swinging for the knock out blow. They found it three different times in the first half, and it’s name was Nate Rodriguez. The Hi-Liners fullback rushed for nearly 150 yards in the first half with three touchdown runs of 76, 44 and 9 yards.

In the second half the Hi-Liners were led by quarterback Jared Lentz and Lucas Jury. The Valley City duo connected twice in the end zone lifting the Hi-Liners to a 38-7 lead.

Rodriguez would score once more for the Hi-Liners in the fourth before Matt Brandvold caped off the night with his first touchdown of the season.

Valley City advances to 3-2 overall with a 1-3 East Region record. The Hi-Liners are on the road again next Friday when they travel to Kindred for a match up with the Vikings. Kick off is set for 7pm. Pregame can be heard on 1490 KOVC starting at 6:30pm.
