CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) Valley City will pursue a 25 year bond to pay for special assessments along 9th Avenue Northwest after the completion of a reconstruction project.

During a public hearing earlier this month one resident said their family faces a $44,000 assessment on three lots. He told the commission another neighbor was assessed $24,000 for their lot.

The Valley City commission gave city auditor Avis Richter the green light to seek a 25 year bond. She says one advantage now is that interest rates are stable.

13 percent of the project was paid for by area residents, the city paid 19 percent and state and federal dollars covered 68 percent of the 9th Avenue Northwest project.
