N.D. (NewsDakota.com) A recent report from the North Dakota Office of Management and Budget claims the state could save about ,000 in Medicaid spending if the pharmacy measure passes in the November 4 General Election.

Mike Schwab, Executive Vice President of the N.D. Pharmacy Association disputes that claim. He says in reality the figure is over a two year period known as the 2015-2017 biennium and not over a one year period as reported last week.

Schwab says don’t be fooled by pharmacy ownership opponents like Wal Mart who support the passage of Measure #7. If passed the measure would repeal the current law that says a pharmacy must be owned by a licensed pharmacist.

Schwab says using the companies own National Association of Chain Drug Store report. He says the report shows North Dakota is 12 percent lower than the national average and Minnesota is 34 percent higher than North Dakota. Minnesota has no majority pharmacy ownership law like North Dakota.

Those who support the passage of Measure #7 believe repealing the North Dakota pharmacy law would reduce the cost of prescription drugs.
