CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) In the sixth edition of the North Star Athletic Association’s football honors, Valley City State’s Antoine Griffin has been named the  Special Teams Player of the Week.

In the Vikings 48-17 win over rival University of Jamestown, the Cocoa Beach Florida native had 217 all-purpose yards. He returned a kick in the game for 36 yards setting up his offense for a good scoring opportunity. Griffin’s  big return came on a 60 yard punt that he took back to the endzone in the second quarter.  The rreshman receiver  also had a 25 yard touchdown run on the offensive side of the ball.

Griffin and the Vikings are now 4-1 on the year with a 2-0 record in the NSAA. In the most recent NAIA Top 25 Coaches Poll VCSU received 11 votes. They fell short of the list by just two. Currently Evangel holds the 25th spot with 13 votes.  The Vikings only blemish this season was to the top team in the poll, Morningside College back on the sixth of September.

Vikings return to the field on Saturday for a homecoming match up with NSAA newcomer Waldorf College. That game can be heard on 1490 KOVC Saturday afternoon starting at 12:30pm with the pregame.
