CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) A semi hauling barley crashed into a guard rail on Interstate 94 in Valley City Wednesday afternoon.

The driver of the semi did not suffer any life-threatening injuries in the crash shortly after 1pm in the eastbound lane.

The impact knocked out two separate wheel assemblies on the rig and the entire guard rail on a small overhead bridge.

The tractor and trailer came to rest in a ditch near the eastbound lane of Interstate 94. Several bushels of barley spilled out of the trailer and into the ditch after the trailer nearly ripped into two pieces after the crash.

The cause of the crash is under investigation with the North Dakota Highway Patrol.

The North Dakota Department of Transportation has announced that traffic in the eastbound driving lane will be temporarily reduced to one lane while repairs are made to the guardrail. Motorists are asked to slow down and speeds will be reduced to 45 mph through the lane closure.
