N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – A driver was charged after the load he was hauling struck the concrete bridge girders on an overpass on I94 near Casselton.

50 year-old Robert Bettini of Lakewood, Colorado was traveling westbound on I94 with a permitted load and a pre-approved route to follow. Bettini was not on the permitted route when the crash occurred. Because of the route change on the part of the driver, the load was too tall for the overpass near mile marker 334. When he passed under an overpass, the tanks struck the concrete bridge girders, causing damage.

The two tanks valued at around $40,000 were totaled in the accident. Damage to the bridge still needs to be assessed. NDDOT has inspected the bridge and have found it structurally safe. The driver was uninjured and cited for Violated Terms & Conditions of an Oversize Permit.
