(NewsDakota.com) After finishing as the second seed in Class A Region I in two of the last three years, the Oakes High School football team finished the regular season with an undefeated mark, and claimed the Regional Championship on Saturday afternoon with a 26-7 victory over the previously undefeated Carrington Cardinals.

Oakes (8-0 7-0 Class A Region I) scored 20 of their points in the second quarter, lead once again by the running prowess of Erik Loepp, who finished with 173 yards and two touchdowns.

Carrington’s (7-1 6-1) lone score came from a 5 yard run by Seth Abaurrea in the third quarter.

As the number one seed in Region I, The #2 ranked Tornadoes will host the number four seed from Region II: Mayville-Portland/Clifford-Galesberg on Saturday, October 25 at 2:30 p.m in the opening round of post-season play. Coverage can be heard on KDDR-AM 1220/95.9 FM and NewsDakota.com.
