N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The Blue Jay football team saw its season come to an end Saturday afternoon in Mandan, as the Braves rallied for a 23-21 victory. A couple turnovers in the first half hurt Jamestown, and helped Mandan build a 10-0 halftime lead.

The Blue Jay offense came to life in the third quarter, scoring on its first two possessions. QB Ross Monson connected with Andrew Hornung on 77 yard TD pass. After a Mandan three and out, the Blue Jay offense went 73 yards in seven plays, and the drive was capped off by a Nolan Love 12 yard TD run to give the Jays a 14-10 lead with 3:30 remaining in the quarter.

It appeared that Jamestown had taken control of the game when Love picked off a pass and returned it 25 yards for a TD with only 7:10 remaining. The Braves responded with a TD but failed on the two point conversion, and Jamestown found itself on top  21-16 with 5:39 to go.

Mandan went for an onside kick and recovered it at the Blue Jay 40. Two plays later Braves QB Jake Carlson hit Parker Harns on a 38 yard TD pass, and Mandan had scored its second TD in a span of :30 seconds.

With Jamestown trailing 23-21, the offense took over with 4:58 to go at its own 23. Monson drove the Jays to the Braves 40 yard line in 14 plays, and on 4th down, he connected with TE Logan Anderson on a 40 yard TD pass with :30 seconds to go, but the play was brought back for offensive holding. On the next play, Monson was sacked and the Jays gave it up on downs.

Jamestown ends the season with a three-game losing streak and a record of 4-4.
