CITY, N.D. (NewsDaktoa.com) Monday was a good day for the Valley City State football team. The most recent NAIA Coaches Poll has the Vikings ranked 19th in the country. That wasn’t the only good news, players Antoine Griffin and Nick McBeain were also named to the NSAA offensive and defensive players of the week.

In order to make the post season in the NAIA a team must win their conference and be ranked at least 20th. With just two games remaining, the Vikings now control their own destiny having received the 19th place ranking. While the Vikings are idle this weekend, they wrap up the season with Mayville State, a team VCSU defeated 62-6 on October, 11, and Presentation College. The Vikings are currently on a six game winning streak and are 7-1 on the season. Their only loss was to the top ranked team in the country, Morningside College.

Helping lead the way for the Vikings was this weeks NSAA Offensive Player of the Week, Antoine Griffin. The freshmen receiver set a school record with 15 receptions in Saturdays 22-17 win over Dickinson State. He finished the game with 162 yards and two touchdowns.

As impressive as Griffin was on the offensive side of the ball, Nick McBeain was just as stellar on defense. The Shakopee, Minnesota native compiled 14 tackles in the game and had a quarterback sack. In Saturday’s win over the Blue Hawks McBeain played a important roll on a Vikings defense that allowed just 94 total yards and no touchdowns in the second half of play.

It is the second time this season for both McBeain and Griffin to receive NSAA Player of the Week honors.
