N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The City of Jamestown has two measures on the November 4th ballot for people to vote on at the polls and of those two; Ordinance 1405 is arguably the most hotly debated one.

Ordinance 1405 focuses on the sales and distribution of fireworks in Jamestown. Currently, the ordinance allows for nine full days of fireworks sales, distribution and detonation to community members. Voters at the poll on November 4th will decide if the days should be limited to five instead of the allowed nine.

Jamestown area fireworks retailers have recently begun a campaign to encourage voters to vote against changing the current ordinance. Fantastic Fireworks owner Corey Bayer is among those against changing the ordinance.

Memory Fireworks Owner Braun Knutson stated that he is also against the ordinance, but wouldn’t be against limiting the shooting days for fireworks.

Jamestown community member Danielle Schmidt is for changing the ordinance. Danielle was the original community member who spoke out against the ordinance and has been pushing for the change since July of this year.

Voting on the ordinance will be during the General Election on November 4th. Early voting will allow community members in Jamestown to vote on the ordinance and other statewide measures beginning today.
