CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) Despite being idle last week, the Valley City State football team has jumped up two spots in the NAIA Top 25 Coaches’ Poll to 17th in the nation.

With a couple of losses to teams in front of the Vikings, VCSU was able to move up in the rankings. The Vikings are currently 7-1 on the year and hold a perfect 4-0 record in the North Star Athletic Association. The Vikings added 32 poll points to their total bringing them to 133 overall.

The Vikings only loss of the season came to Morningside back on September 6th. Currently the Mustangs hold the top spot in the Coaches Poll and are the country’s only undefeated team.

As it stands now, the Vikings are in position to earn an NAIA playoff berth. In order for a team to make the postseason they must crack the top 20 and win their conference.

VCSU returns to the gridiron on Saturday when they hit the road against Mayville State. They round out the regular season on November 8th at Presentation College. Valley City’s next game against Mayville State will be Broadcast on 1490 KOVC starting at 12:30pm on Saturday, November 1st.
