CITY, N.D.(NewsDakota.com) A forum for Barnes County Commission candidates was held and two candidates addressed a question from the audience about the divide between Barnes County and Valley City.

Candidate Bill Carlbloom says the two entities need to compromise and begin talking to each other. He says the community needs to find a way to work together.

His opponent Ryan Mathias agrees that more communication is needed to help solve a divide between the county and the city.

A question concerning the Veteran’s Affairs office was addressed during the forum as well and candidate Phil Leitner believes it’s a tough balancing act for the current officer to split his office work with his other duties required outside the office on a daily basis.

Candidate Mike Metcalf says as a former business owner he understands how schedules have to change any moment referring to the current Veterans Affair officer’s job.

Mike Metcalf and Phil Leitner are running for the Barnes County District 2 position and Bill Carlbloom and Ryan Mathias are vying for the District 3 position in the November 4 election.
