Marie (Henderson) Mahto was born on March 9, 1949 in Britton, South Dakota, to Davis Allen and Deloris Mae (Kraig) Henderson. She started school in Poplar, Montana. She graduated from Jamestown High School in 1967. Janet attended State School of Science in Wahpeton, and later completed her medical records degree.

Over the years, she also lived and worked in Iowa and Minnesota. She returned to Jamestown in 2012. After an illness, she resided at Eventide Nursing Home.

Janet enjoyed reading, traveling and camping, visiting with friends and writing poetry. Her greatest joy was found in helping others and caring for her cats.

She is survived by her beloved son, Gero Davis Mahto (Michelle), Jamestown, ND; three sisters, Kathy (Allen) Kupitz, Stirum, ND, Ellen Hall, Newburgh, IN, and Amy (Rick) Gross, Oakes, ND; one niece, Andrea Gross, three nephews, Jacob (Heather) Hall, Jerrit Hall, and Anthony Gross; one great-nephew, Jaxon Hall; one step-grandson, Taylor Lindvall; and many loved ones and friends. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, parents, and brother-in-law, Jeffrey Hall.

She passed into Jesus’ arms on October 28, 2014 at Sanford Medical Center in Fargo, North Dakota.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, November 1, 2014 from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. with her funeral to follow at 5:00 p.m. at Dahlstrom Funeral Home, Oakes. She will be buried next to her parents in the Oakes View Cemetery. An on-line guestbook may be signed at www.dahlstromfuneralhome.com
