CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) The Valley City State football team made a big splash in the North Star Athletic Association this year finishing the season with an overall record of 9-1 and an unblemished conference mark of 6-0. Now 13 Vikings players have been named to the All-NSAA team, 9 on the first team, and four players being named to the second team.

Vikings Quarterback Kurtis Walls picked up first team honors and was also named the leagues offensive MVP. This year the sophomore play caller set a new VCSU record with 35 touchdowns passes in a single season. Walls also found receivers for 2,774 yards.

Walls was joined on the first team by four of his offensive cohorts,  tight end Jake Miller (37 rec., 468 yards, 5 TD), wide receiver Antoine Griffin (71 rec., 1,174 yards, 17 total TD) and offensive linemen George Trujillo and Avery Lock.

On the defensive side of the ball three Vikings were awarded first team honors. Freshman Linebacker Nick McBeain (125 tackles, 9 TFL, 2.5 sacks) shared the honor with defensive backs Jawuan Pugh (63 tackles, 3 INT, 3 FR, 2 TD) and Mychael Bruce (24 tackles, 3 INT, 2 blocked kicks, TD).

On special teams, Vikings kicker Thomas Cortes picked up first team honors as well.

 Vikings named to the second team were receiver Zach Johnson, center Landon Freitas, defensive lineman Sam Cooke and linebacker Ben Bruenjes.

Other honors went Dennis McCulloch who was named the NSAA Coach of the Year, and tight end Jake Miller who was awarded the NSAA Champions of Character Achievement Award.

The Vikings continue their season this weekend when they travel to Carroll College for the opening round of the NAIA National  Tournament. The game can be heard Saturday, November 22nd starting at 12:30pm on 1490 KOVC.
