N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The 2014-15 Jamestown boys hockey team opened the season Tuesday night with a barn burner at Wilson Arena versus Grafton Park River. The Spoilers escaped with a 2-1 victory, despite getting out shot by the Jays 34-30.

Ryan Lessard scored the game winner on a break away goal with 7:30 remaining to snap a 1-1 tie. Cody Kingsbury scored a goal for G-P-R with two minutes remaining in the first, and that tally held up until Nick Stockert scored the equalizer on a power play goal at the 3:58 mark of period three. Assists went to Austin Rene and Nick Urquhart.

Each team received outstanding goaltending with the Jays Brian Wenzel kicking out 28 shots, while the Spoilers Ean Peterson turned away 33 shots.

“This was a fun game to be a part of.” Said head coach Matt Stockert, “Unfortunately we ended up on the short end of the scoreboard.”

The Blue Jays hit the road for their next game, with a trip to Hazen on Saturday for their West Region opener against the Hazen/Beulah North Stars.
