N.D. (AP) The closing of Alco stores around the central U.S. affects nearly two dozen communities in the Dakotas.

The small-town discount retailer is closing after a U.S. Bankruptcy court in Dallas approved an order by the company’s creditors to shutter its stores.

The Texas-based company was established in 1901 and grew to operate 198 stores in 23 states.

In North Dakota Alco stores in Oakes, Lisbon, Carrington, Mayville, Langdon and Grafton will close as well as stores in Sisseton and Mobridge South Dakota.
