CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) Rick Ross, Associate Professor, Department of Technology at Valley City State University recently returned from the Association for Career and Technical Education’s CareerTech Vision 2014 Conference in Nashville, Tennessee.

The conference provided an opportunity to discuss important issues relating to membership and the governance of ACTE. Ross participated in sessions on the recruitment and retention of Career and Technical Education Teachers.

Several states (including North Dakota) are seeing a shortage of Career and Technical Education teachers, Career and Technical Education teacher preparation programs and shortages of Agriculture, Family and Consumer Science, Business, Auto Mechanic, Welding, Health Careers, Technology and Engineering, Career Advisors and Administrators.

During the conference, Ross met with several state’s teacher preparation programs and state executive directors to brainstorm ideas on recruitment and preparation of teachers into Career and Technical Education fields.

Ross is planning on continuing the discussions with state leaders when he attends the ACTE Region V Conference in April where he will be presenting North Dakota’s program for CTE Teacher Certification.
