CITY (NewsDakota.com) The first day of the 2014 Barnes County Girls Basketball Tournament was played on Tuesday at the W.E. Osmon Fieldhouse on the campus of Valley City State University.

Maple Valley 56 Barnes County North 18

In the first of the four games, the three time defending tournament champions from Maple Valley cruised to a victory agaist the eight seeded Lady Bison of Barnes County North. Maple Valley had a double-double from Rylee Nudell with a team high 25 points and 14 rebounds. The Lady Bison committed 27 turnovers, shot under 20 percent for the game, and were lead in scoring by Kayla Scott with 9 points.

Oakes 35 Enderlin 33

In the only game of the four that came down to the wire, the Tornadoes earned their first victory of the season, while keeping the Eagles winless on the young season. Oakes had 13 points from Lydia Hansen, while Jordan Seyer added 6 points to go along with 12 rebounds. The Eagles had 12 points from Mai Syverson and another 10 courtesy of Alison Bartholmay.

LaMoure-Litchville-Marion 61 Griggs County Central 26

The Loboes scored 25 points in the first quarter against the Cougars, and never looked back. Anna Holen and Jacey Alber each had 16 points for LLM, while GCC committed 30 turnovers and had a team high 13 points from Jadin Carlson.

Sargent Central 62 Finley-Sharon/Hope-Page 44

The Cadets used a 17-9 fourth quarter to pull away from the Spartans for the victory of the final of Tuesday’s games. Sargent Central also converted on free throws; going 6 of 12 in the first half and 11 of 13 in half number two. Three players had double-doubles: Hannah Schlect (18 points, 12 rebounds), Jamie Minarik (13 points, 14 rebounds) and Rane Nelson (11 points, 11 rebounds). FSHP’s Zoie Breckheimer netted a team high 15 points in the loss.

Thursday’s play starts at 3 p.m. with Barnes County North playing Enderlin, followed by Griggs County Central against Finley-Sharon/Hope-Page. Winner’s bracket play commences at 6 p.m with Maple Valley and Oakes and around 7:30 it’s LaMoure-Litchville/Marion playing Sargent Central Coverage on Q101.1FM and NewsDakota.com starts at 2:30, with the Oakes game simicast on KDDR-AM 1220/95.9 FM.
