CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) The Valley City State men’s basketball team fell just short of their fourth straight win on Saturday night when they lost to the University of Winnipeg 80-70 at W.E. Osmon Fieldhouse.

The Vikings seemed to have no answer for Winnipeg’s Jelane Pryce who weaved through the VCSU defense for a game high 31 points.

In the loss, Vikings freshman Briton Bussman had a breakout game hitting a season high 20 points and capping off the first half with a buzzer beating three pointers.

In the second half the Wesmen took a 13 point lead early on. The Vikings would rally back to make it a one point game with just over four minutes remaining. Unfortunately, Winnipeg had the answer and would re-gather themselves to take a 10 point victory in the final three minutes.

Mac Kroeplin posted 13 points on the back of three 3-point buckets. Under the basket Quinton Peterson led the Vikings with eight rebounds and 9 points. Russell Robinson helped carry the load with seven rebounds in the game while scoring 10 points.

The Vikings loss drops them to 7-6 on the season. They return home next Friday, December the 19th when they host the University of Minnesota-Morris. The game can be heard on 1490 KOVC along with the women’s game starting at 5:15pm.
