ND  (NewsDakota.com)  Both the boys and girls varsity basketball teams for Carrington were in action on Thursday night.  The boys traveled to Gackle to take on the Imperials of Napoleon/Gackle-Streeter and the girls hosted the Mustangs of Midkota/Kensal for their first regular season District 5 match up of the year.  The Boys won 68-31 and the girls won 65-29.  Carrington boys are now 1-1 overall and the girls are 1-0 in District 5 and 7-0 overall.  The Imperials drop to 0-3 overall and the Mustangs drop to 0-2 and 1-5 overall.

In the boys game, Senior Captain Brady Smith poured in 22 points, including two 3-pointers, as the Cardinals beat the Imperials 68-31.  Carrington came alive in the second half scoring 45 points compared to NGS’s 20.  The Cards were sparked by Smith and Junior Center Shae Mearing.  Mearing scored all of his 14 points in the second half, including four 3-pointers.  The Cardinals defense caused 24 total turnovers.

In the girls game, Carrington had three players in double figures including Maara Nelson with 13 points, Brooke Rosenau with 12 and Lynzee Hagemeister with 10.  The Cards had a 33-14 lead at halftime.  Brooke Ronningen of MK led all scorers with 14 points.
