N.D. (NewsDakota.com) As of last week the North Dakota Department of Health had recorded over 800 confirmed cases of the flu.

Influenza surveillance coordinator Jill Baber says this week she expects to confirm
“hundreds” more cases.  She says flu cases seemed to be more rampant among young children, but now the health department is seeing more cases among the elderly especially those residing in long term care facilities.

Baber says this year could be a “bad” flu year because one of the main strains of flu going around isn’t well matched to this year’s flu vaccine. She says despite this fact, it’s still worth it to get vaccinated for the flu.

Baber says flu vaccines can be found at local public health units, your primary care provider or some pharmacies.  She says frequent hand washing, covering your cough and staying home when you are sick can also help prevent the spread of the flu.
