CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) For the second night in a row the Hi-Liners and Broncos battled on the basketball court, but this time around it was the boys teams that meet up at the Hi-Liner Activity Center. Valley City would use a 16-2 run late in the second to help them edge out Lisbon for a 71-66 victory.

The win gives the Hi-Liners a 2-5 record on the season while the Broncos fall to 2-5 on the year.

Valley City’s Jared Lentz had a remarkable start to the game posting 17 points in the opening half. While Lisbon struggled to keep the Hi-Liners senior in check, they two would get a strong performance from Junior forward Austin Pithey. The Broncos starter posted a team high 12 points in the first period and gave his team a boost just before the break when he cut the Hi-Liners lead to five with a bucket before the buzzer.

Pithey would tie up the game in the second half when he hit one of two free throws after the Hi-Liners bench was called for a technical foul.  Shortly after the score evened up,  Valley went on a 16-2 run. Despite the large deficit, the Broncos would fight back cutting the lead to just two points in the final minute of the game. However, the Broncos would watch the game get out of reach after the Hi-Liners hit there free throws in the final seconds.

Valley finished the game from the charity stride hitting 15-of-19. Lentz led all scorers with 21 points while Nate Rodriguez had 19 and Levi Nix stood strong with 16 points in the victory.

The Broncos were led by Jocob Olson’s 20 points. Pithey ended the game with 19 points.

The Hi-Liners return to the court next week when they host West Fargo on Thursday evening. That game can be heard on 1490 KOVC.
