(NewsDakota.com) Throughout the course of a season, there are bound to be games in which if a few things went differently, the end result would be completely different. For the Oakes High School girls basketball team in their contest against the Midkota/Kensal Mustangs on Thursday night, it was a game which matched that description to the letter.

The Tornadoes held on for a 57-52 overtime win, despite a fourth quarter that saw Midkota score more points than they did in the previous three quarters combined. The Mustangs (2-9 0-4 Class B District 5) made a three point basketball at the end of regulation to force the extra session.

Oakes was able to slowly pull away in the extra session to earn their second victory in their district this year, and improve to 3-8 overall. The Tornadoes (2-2 District 5) had a team high 20 points from Shelby Roney; the sophomore managed just two points at half.

A road trip to Napoleon awaits Oakes on Tuesday January 20 before returning to District 5 play at home on Thursday January 22 versus Carrington.
