(NewsDakota.com) The winter sports teams of Oakes High School were quite busy over the weekend.

On Friday, the basketball teams hosted Sargent Central in non-district doubleheader; with both games being lopsided affairs. The girls lost 74-30 to the Cadets, placing them at 3-11 for the season. Oakes had a team high seven points from Jordyn Seyer, while Bella Hansen made the lone three-point basket for the Tornadoes; from a quarter-length of the court away to end the first quarter.

Meanwhile the boys picked up a 66-43 win against the Cadets, and followed that up with a 61-57 victory in Kulm against Edgeley-Kulm-Montpeiler on Saturday. Friday’s game saw Oakes take a 23-0 lead after the first quarter and never looked back. Bryce Meehl had 14 points for Oakes, while Ethan Zetocha added 12, and Carter Zetocha chipped in another 10. The Tornado boys have now won five games in a row, and sport a 7-4 overall mark and 2-1 in District 5.

The Oakes wrestlers took part in the Nick Storhaug Invitational Tournament in Lisbon over the weekend. The Tornadoes took third as a team with a total of 165.5 points. South Border took the top spot (197), followed by Wahpeton (176).
