N.D. (AP) – Theodore Roosevelt National Park in western North Dakota is increasing entrance and campground fees.

The National Park Service says the increases will be phased in, starting Sunday, to lessen their impact.

Acting Superintendent Wendy Ross says the majority of the 29 responses the park received during a public comment period supported the increases. She says the additional money will be used for projects to benefit park visitors, such as trail upgrades and improvements to museum exhibits.

The per-vehicle cost to enter the park will go from $10 to $20, and eventually to $25 in 2017. Annual park passes will rise from $20 to $40, and eventually to $50 in 2017. Campground fees also will increase in varying amounts.
