(NewsDakota.com) It was another successful weekend for the Oakes High School wrestling team at the 2015 Class B State Meet

Oakes finished in third in the standings as part of the individual tournament with a team score of 115.5 points.

The Tornadoes had two wrestlers win individual championships. Junior Michael Kelly repeated as a champion at the 285 pound weight class, while Erik Loepp was a champion for the fifth straight year wrestling at 138 pounds. Loepp has become just the fifth competitor in the history of North Dakota High School wrestling to win five state championships, and the first Oakes wrestler to be named Senior Athlete Of The Year.

 Oakes took eight wrestlers as individuals to state, and all placed. In addition to Kelly and Loepp winning championships, Coy Awender was seventh at 106 pounds, Grayson Roney took sixth at 126 pounds, Austin Kelly took fourth place at 160 pounds, Jared Roth was eight at 170 pounds, Jed Bopp took second place at 190 pounds and Cole Kelly was sixth at 220 pounds. 

As a team in the Class B Duel Tournament, the Tornadoes took third place. In the opening round on Thursday, the number four seed defeated Minot Bishop Ryan by a 48-29 margin. Round two on Friday saw Oakes fall to the number one seeded Carrington Cardinals 48-29. In the third place duel later Friday, Oakes held off Pembina County North 41-33. Carrington won the State Class B Duel Tournament with a 54-15 thumping of #2 Napoleon.
