(Newsdakota.com)  The 2015 edition of the District 5 boys basketball tourney started Friday at the Jamestown Civic Center with three games.  Three new teams make their way into the tourney this year including Carrington, Midkota/Kensal and Oakes.  Carrington is the number one overall seed and received a first round bye.  The Loboes of Lamoure/Litchville-Marion are going for their fifth District 5 championship in a row.  

Oakes 62  Edgeley/Kulm/Montpelier 47

Newcomer Oakes wins their first District 5 Tournament game against the Rebels.  Last year Oakes made a run to the Region 1 Championship, and would drop to Fargo Oak Grove, who would become the State Champs.  The Tornadoes made seven 3-pointers, led by Junior Brody Bartholomew with 17 points including three 3-pointers, followed by Senior Carter Zetocha with 14 points and three 3-pointers as well.  EKM was led by Junior Connor Entzi with 24 points, 15 rebounds and four blocked shots.

Ellendale 61  Midkota 27

The number two seeded Cardinals roll past the number seven seeded Mustangs in the day’s second game.  Senior Adam White led all scorers with 22 points, nine boards and three steals.  Ellendale shot 45% from the field, 24/53.  Gavin Smith had nine points to lead the Mustangs.

Lamoure/Litchville-Marion 75  Barnes County North 36

The Loboes improve their chances to make it five in a row district championships after they hand the Bison their 19th loss of the year.  LLM had five players in double figures, leading the way was Drew Thielges with 20 points including six 3-pointers.  Anthony Olson added 12 points including a first quarter fast break dunk.  Parker Stemen and Brady Warcken had 11 each and center Quinn Alo added 10.  The Loboes were 29/51 from the field for 56%.  Freshman Allen Contreras of the Bison had 15 points, 11 rebounds and three steals.  The Bison had 28 turnovers and shot 29% from the field.  

Saturday’s schedule:

430pm – Barnes County North vs. Midkota (loser out)

6pm – Carrington vs. Oakes (semifinal)

730pm – Lamoure/LM vs. Ellendale (semifinal)
