LAKE, ND  (NewsDakota.com)  Last night at the Devils Lake Sports Center, three games were played to determine the top four teams from District 7 that will advance to the the Region 4 Tournament in Devils Lake on Monday, March 9th.  The top four teams of district seven will meet the top four teams from district eight next Monday.   

Region Qualifier:

Dakota Prairie (Knights)   13   11   17   12    53

Lakota-Edmore (Raiders) 15   11   10   12    48

Freshman guard Hunter Sand led the way with a game high 24 points (8-12 shooting), six steals, and five assists for Dakota Prairie. Sand hit on 8-11 free throws and also added five rebounds as the Knights advance to the Region 4 tourney with the win.  Jon Lund added 11 points, and Caleb Quanbeck went for nine points.  The Knights improved to 12-10 with the win.  Kaden Martinson led the Raiders with 19 points  and a game high 18 rebounds. The Raiders season comes to an end with a 10-11 overall record.

New Rockford-Sheyenne (Rockets)   9   11   13   16     49

The Rockets (5-17) season came to an end Monday night in Devils Lake, losing to Benson County 54-49. Seth Soderholm led NR-S with 15 points and added three steals. Kaleb Haley (11), & Jack Schafer (10), also scored in double figures for the Rockets. Chance Brenno hauled in 7 rebounds to lead the Rockets as well.  

Benson County (10-12), advances to the Region 4 tourney with the win, they were led in scoring by Dagan Arendt with a game high 19 points and 8 rebounds.  Aidan Ritterman added 12 points and also shared the game high rebounds with 8.

District 7 Championship:

Four Winds/Minnewaukan (Indians)   13   20   16   10     59

Harvey-Wells County (Hornets)             17    9     8    11     45

The depth of #1 rated Four Winds proved to be the difference in the District 7 championship. The Hornets jumped out to a 10-2 early lead, and led 17-13 at the end of the first quarter. The Indians pressure defense and up tempo game outscored the Hornets 36-17 in quarters 2 and 3 and led 49-34 heading to the fourth quarter.

Andrew Alveshere led the Hornets with 14 points, Brian Fike added nine points, two steals, two assists, and teammate Shaun Kourajian added eight points. The Hornets (16-6), will take on Dunseith in the opening round of the Region 4 tournament.

The Indians were led by Trayvon McKay (19 points—game high), seven rebounds and Cody Fassett 14 points and a game high 12 rebounds. Four Winds, ranked #1 in the final class B poll of the year will play Rolla in the first round of the Region 4 tourney.

The Tourney will continue on Tuesday and Thursday, with the winner on Thursday night advancing to the State Class B Boys Basketball Tournament in Bismarck starting Thursday, March 19th.  

District 8 North Star is the defending Region 4 Champs, placing third at State and finishing with a record of 20-8 last year.
