(NewsDakota.com) – The University of Jamestown hosted a pair of North Star Athletic Association championships on Tuesday night at the Jamestown Civic Center. The Jimmie women took home their first tournament title with a 65-48 win over Valley City State. In a fourth straight conference title meeting, the Jimmie men lost to Dakota State 66-65.

WBB: Jimmies 65, VCSU 48

The stifling defense from the Jimmies held VCSU to just 17 points in the second half. The Vikings held a two-point advantage at the break, but the second stanza was all Jamestown. Jessica Buck had 12 points, but it was her eight-straight that helped the Jimmies take control. Her final basket put the Jimmies up 15 in the final minutes.

Kadie Savage got the task of defending NSAA newcomer-of-the-year Georgia Williams, who is VCSU’s leading scorer. Savage did not allow a point to Williams. Williams finished 0-6 from the field. Jamestown doubled-up the Vikings on the glass, 48-24.

Buck, a junior from Burnsville, MN, was named the NSAA MVP after the win. Chelsey Frydenlund was also named the first-team all-conference.

MBB: Dakota State 66, Jimmies 65

KeWan Davis hit a three with 1:19 to go to give the Jimmies their first lead since early in the first half. Dakota State got a pair of free throws to pull within one. On the ensuing possession, following a timeout, Trojan’s Cameron Robinson made a great break on the inbound pass and sprinted for a layup.

The Jimmies final shot fell short and the Trojans turned what appeared to be a grind-it out win for Jamestown to a shocker.

Brequan Tucker was named NSAA MVP and scored 16 points. Davis finished with 19 points on a perfect 6-6 shooting. It was his performance in the second half that kept the Jimmies around.

The women will find out Wednesday night who their first round match-up is for next week. They will play either Wednesday or Thursday in Sioux City.
