CITY , N.D (NewsDakota.com) The Valley City State women’s basketball team has announced the signing of Fargo South stand out center Nya Chakin.

In her senior season with the Bruins, Chakin finished third in the Eastern Dakota Conference with 10 rebounds a game. Her defense was also a show case of her game, finishing third in the league in blocked shots with nearly three a night.

In her final season with the Bruins, Chakin was one of just two players in the EDC who averaged a double-double with 10 points and 10 boards a game and shot an outstanding 51 percent from the field.

Standing 6-foot-3, Chakin will add some size to the Vikings Roster. Valley City State Coach Jill DeVries said, “Her length and athleticism alone can be a game changer. She has a tremendous desire to improve and with added strength the sky is the limit for Nya.”

Chakin joins Mackenzie Huber (Center, Clark, S.D.), Courtney Magnuson (Guard, Willmar, Minn.), Alli Vandal (Forward, Rolla, N.D.) and Kaitlin Connor (Center, Madison, Minn.) as signed recruits for the 2015-16 VCSU women’s basketball season.
