CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) Mr Mike’s martial arts owner/instructor Mike Schmidt took his team of Andrew McGough, Cameron and Noah Gabel to participate in the “Northwoods Conquest”, held in Cumberland, Wisconsin. The event was sponsored by Master Eric Swan’s Northwoods Tae Kwon Do.

Mike was very pleased with the effort and the results of his students. “All the hard work pays off”.

Andrew placed first in board breaking and Gi grappling, second in grappling and sparring and placed third in pattern.

Cameron came home with two first place finishes, one in sparring and the other in grappling with a second place in Gi grappling.

Noah placed first in both grappling and Gi grappling, second in sparring along with third place finishes in both board breaking and pattern.

This year’s tournament was judged by some of the upper Midwest most recognized Tae Kwon Do personalities. Grand Masters Jim Grimestad and Kevin Schutz, Masters Ed Jacobson, Justin Kessler, Bruce Sodahl, Chris Correia, Ryan Avery, Chris Redhead, John Klun, Don Larson and Rob Schneider to name a few. Grand Masters have earned the 7th dan and above and Masters the 4th dan and above. The term “dan” means  the level or degree of black belt.

Competitors came from North Dakota, Minnesota and Wisconsin.

Mr. Mike’s Martial Arts holds classes every Monday and Thursday nights. Children @ 5:00, youth @ 6:00 and Adult @ 7:00pm. Anyone interested in Tae Kwon Do can call Mike at 840-9160.
