FORKS, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) The Valley City Hi-Liner Spring sports season is officially underway with the start of softball and baseball season in Grand Forks Tuesday night. The Hi-Liner softball team split a pair of Eastern Dakota Conference games with Red River winning game one 3-2 and falling the night cap 11-0. The Hi-Liner baseball team played Central in a pair of games, only the first game counted in the EDC standings. The Knights would take both games over Valley City winning the conference game 3-2 and and the second game by a score of 10-3.

On the softball field, the Hi-Liners opened with a strong performance in the circle from Tarryn Justesen. The Hi-Liners junior ace allowed just one run in an complete game performance for Valley City. At the plate, Kacee White who drove in the games winning runs in the second inning with a two RBI double.

In the nights second game, the Hi-Liners had no answer at the plate for Brynn Bohan. The Rough Riders hurler pitched a complete game shut out allowing just five hits through five innings. The Rough Riders Offense was led by Jerrica Rosendahl who finished 2-for-4 in the game with 3 RBI’s. Meghan Ramage was a perfect 3-for-3 in the batters box helping drive in 3 runs in the win.

Hi-Liner softball returns to the diamond when they host West Fargo in a double header starting at 4:30pm.

At Central High School, the Hi-Liner baseball team lost a close Eastern Dakota Conference opener to the Knights by just one run.

On the mound, Nate Rodriguez kept the Hi-Liners close by allowing just two runs on four hits through five innings. While Valley City struggled a little at the plate, they did get some timely hitting from  from Dalton Ondracek, Dawson Dietrich and Jake Miller.

In the non-conference game the Knights bats were to much for the Hi-Liner as Central cruised to a 10-3 win in the night cap.

The Hi-Liner baseball team returns to the field Thursday night when they host West Fargo Sheyenne. First pitch is at 5:00pm.
