CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) The Valley City Hi-Liner softball team picked up their third win in conference play with a dominating 8-1 victory over Devils Lake on Tuesday night.

The win advances Valley City to 5-3 overall and 3-2 in the Eastern Dakota Conference. Devils Lake falls to 1-4 overall with a conference mark of 0-4.

Valley City opened the game with three runs in the first inning and never looked back. The Hi-Liners defense kept the Firebirds off the scoreboard until late in the sixth inning. After relinquishing the run, the Hi-Liners offense posted another 5 runs in the bottom of the frame to secure the victory.

At the dish MacKenzie Pederson set the tone for Valley scoring one run and driving in two on one hit. In the circle Tarryn Justesen was solid scattering six hits and striking out eight in the game. She was just as effective at the plate driving in two runs going a perfect 2-for-2.

The JV team also took home a win on the day defeating Devils Lake 14-1 in their game.

It was tremendous pitching performance for Valley City’s Grace Scherr who allowed just one hit in the win. She came up just one batter shy of striking out all 15 Firbirds  she faced.

The Hi-Liner softball team returns home on Thursday when they host Grand Forks Central in an EDC double header starting at 4:30pm.
