CITY, N.D. (VCHS) Coach Nielson’s Thoughts:  We competed.  We competed hard.  We competed well.  We won a close match and lost two close matches.  The match could have ended up anywhere from 8-1 to 5-4.

Clarissa lost to the defending state champion with a very respectable 6-3, 6-2.  Reagan did the same against the same caliber of player.  Clarissa and Reagan also backed up their semifinal state victory last year over Red River with a W today against the same two players.  Sam and Maia in their first doubles match EVER together took the defending state singles champion and a state qualifier to a first set tiebreaker and a very close 6-4 second set.   Maia went three sets before losing.  Breanna McDonald won in singles.

There are many superlatives for each player and doubles team, but that was not the point of today. The point was Valley City girls tennis is here and we are excited to compete against whomever is across the net giving our full effort and representing Valley City High School the best we can.  We represented VCHS well today.

JV Match:

Coach Kasey Dilbeck’s Thoughts: It was amazing to see that every single girl on JV, whether they won or lost, came off the court with a smile. All of them hit all four of our team pillars of sportsmanship, 110% effort, positive attitude, and having fun.

Hannah Dockter and Hannah Aberle showed everything a doubles team should be when they played. They communicated properly and kept each others spirits high throughout the whole match. Hannah Dockter was a beast at the net and Hannah Aberle was there for almost every shot Dockter wasn’t able to reach. It was awesome to see this duo use these things to play great Hi-Liner tennis!
