CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) The Hi-Liner softball team picked up two more wins in the Eastern Dakota Conference Thursday night with wins of 6-2 and 8-7 over Grand Forks Central.

The wins advanced Valley City to 5-2 in the EDC, and 7-4 overall this year. Hi-Liners are currently in second place in the league.

Valley City 6 v. G.F. Central 2

In the day’s opening game, the Hi-Liners got help from everyone at the plate. Six different players drove in runs to secure the victory. Hannah Meyer was perfect at the dish going 4-for-4 with a run scored.

On the Mound Tarryn Justesen picked up the win pitching all seven innings allowing just one earned run and striking out 9 in the game.

Valley City 8 v. G.F. Central 7

In the night cap, the Knights posted four runs in the third inning before the Hi-Liners battled back to steal the victory in walk off fashion.

Hi-Liners tied the game in the sixth before an error in the seventh allowed G.F. Central’s Rachel Meyer to score giving the Knights back the lead. In the bottom of the frame, Valley matched the Knights run when Sadie Klingenberg blasted an infield single that scored Kacee White. In the next at bat Mackenzie Pederson sent a comeback shot that glanced off of Willow Rynestad glove in the circle to score the winning run. 

Tarryn Justesen picked up here second win of the day in four innings of relief. The junior Ace gave up just five hits and struck out five in the game to help the Hi-Liners defense. After an impressive JV game on Tuesday, Grace Scherr was given the start for the Hi-Liners. She would finish with three innings pitched. She allowed five runs on four hits and two strike outs.

The Hi-Liners return to work this weekend when the travel across state lines to the Detroit Lakes tournament in Minnesota.
