CITY, ND – City Commissioner Mary Lee Nielson says a letter from the Tennis Association, Park District and the School District is asking the city for a different location for the pollinator park and orchard project. They support the concept but not the location in the former lime pit on city property.

Nielson say the school board and park district have agreed to PILOT programs and large TIFs when the city has asked them to give up potential tax monies for the good of the city.

Nielson says now they are asking the city to not give up the pollinator project but to merely move it.

Valley City Commissioner Madeline Luke, members on the Valley City Beautification Committee and VCSU Fish & Wildlife professor Casey Williams support planting a pollinator park in the former lime pit site pending city approval to enhance educational opportunities and attract tourists traveling through town.

The item will be discussed again during the April 21 city commission meeting at 5pm in Valley City.
