CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com)Baseball: The Hi-Liner Baseball team picked up their first win in the Eastern Dakota Conference Friday night with a 5-0 shutout win over Devils Lake. However in the second game the Firebirds would get their revenge picking up their first win in the conference 11-1.

In the opening game, the Hi-Liners bats were loud posting seven hits against the Firebirds. Dalton Ondracek led the Hi-Liners at the plate with a pair of hits, Brando Pritchett came around to score two of Valley’s five runs in the game.

On the Mound Nate Rodriguez kept the Firebirds at arms length pitching seven shutout innings  striking out nine and allowing just four hits.

In the night cap the Hi-Liners struggled to make plays on the defensive side of the ball. Ethen Zeltinger was given the loss on the mound at the Firebirds had their way at the plate.

The two game split advance the Hi-Liners to 3-6 on the season, they now stand 1-4 in EDC play. Valley Is on the road in Wahpeton on Tuesday night.

Softball: Hi-Liners softball made their way across state lines for a three game round robin tournament in Detroit Lakes, Minnesota. Valley City would drop their first two games in losses to Casselton 11-10 and Fargo Shanley 9-5. They would get their only win of the weekend in the final game ,6-1 over Fergus Falls, Minnesota.

In the victory, six different Hi-Liners drove in runs. In the circle Tarryn Justesen picked up the win striking out six and allowing just one run on four hits. Sadie Klingenberg and MacKenzie Pederson led Valley City at the plate each going 3-for-4 and scoring a run. 

Valley City is now 8-6 overall. They take their 5-2 conference record up against Fargo Davies Tuesday afternoon when they host the Eagles in a double header starting with the conference game at 4:30pm
