N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – A high school senior from Oakes, North Dakota has been named as a national example of academic excellence.

18 year-old Brittany Roney is a national semifinalist in A-C-T’s College and Career Readiness Campaign is graduating from Oakes High School next month.

North Dakota school superintendent Kirsten Baesler says Roney sets an example for her peers.

Roney is an honor student. She’s active in FFA, student council and the National Honor Society. She plays volleyball and basketball and does extensive volunteer work.

Roney is recovering from thyroid cancer. The illness has affected her voice. She says she’s in remission.

She and the other three ACT finalists will be honored at a gala in Washington, D-C in June.
