ND – The oil in rail cars that derailed and caught fire east of Heimdal, North Dakota was in compliance with new oil conditioning regulations from the state.

Allison Ritter with the department of mineral resources confirms that the oil had been treated to reduce the vapor pressure and lower its explosive nature.

It was loaded at Hess Corporation’s terminal in Tioga, North Dakota.  Six B-N-S-F cars left the tracks and four caught fire.
