CITY, ND –  The Sheyenne Valley Community Foundation received a ,000 grant from John Deere Foundation to support low income wellness services.

The grant will support efforts to extend the services of Valley City Parks & Recreation to low-income families in the greater Barnes County Area.

Sheyenne Valley Community Foundation Administrator Andrea Nelson said we are excited to partner with the John Deere Foundation and Valley City Parks & Recreation to launch the Community Wellness For All program to ensure that all residents have access to health and wellness programs regardless of their socio-economic status.

The program will operate on a variety of levels providing vouchers to low income individuals, allowing them the opportunity to participate in youth programs offered by Valley City Parks & Recreation; offer select youth and adaptive programs at no-cost for all participants; and provide Fitness Center and pool memberships for low income individuals and families.

Vouchers will be provided to individuals and families who meet income requirements as demonstrated through a formal application process or through a letter from Social Services.

Valley City Parks & Recreation director Tyler Jacobson said this is a unique opportunity for us and we are extremely grateful to the John Deere Foundation for providing us the ability to serve those in our community who struggle to find and dedicate dollars to their health and fitness.

Families are encouraged to stop at Social Services to pick up an eligibility letter. Anyone who qualifies for any Social Service program can access this service.  These letters can be brought to the Parks & Rec office and allow families to sign up for Summer Rec programs and pool passes at no charge. In addition, Summer Track and Adaptive programs will be offered at no charge.
