CITY, ND – The Mercy Art Gallery presently has a show featuring the students of Valley City Public Schools in grades kindergarten through grade 12.  The gallery is located on the main floor at CHI Mercy Health, starting near the front desk and continuing through the hallway to Sanford Health.

During the 2014-15 school year the art teacher at Washington and Jefferson Elementary, Stephani Krueger,  had the students create artwork with various art materials focusing on famous artists and basic art techniques.

Some of the artists they focused on this year included: Piet Mondrian, Pablo Picasso, Paul Cezanne, Henri Matisse, Wayne Thiebaud, and many more. Students were shown pictures of the artist’s work, read a short biography about the artist, and were given the opportunity to have a classroom museum tour. Mercy Gallery director Sharon Buhr said you will definitely recognize which artist, by their style, that each student was depicting.

Many of the art pieces are made from markers, sharpies, crayons, colored pencils, and paper. While the students are given the same overall theme for their artwork the end products always are uniquely different.

Kelly Callahan, Valley City High School art instructor, also has some of her students work  in the exhibition.  Featured are the 2015 ND Juried Art Show (Governor Show) senior high division award winners, including two seniors Rebekah Peterson and Abby Brown.

Claire Powell, grade 3 at Jefferson Elementary School, is holding her work, done in the style of Pablo Picasso which is being shown at the Mercy Gallery, located between CHI Mercy Health and Sanford Health in Valley City. The Gallery is open from 7 am to 9 pm.
