Hetland, age 64, of Valley City, ND, died Wednesday, July 29th at her residence surrounded by her family under Hospice of the Red River Valley Care.  A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, August 1st at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Valley City.  Visitation will be held on Friday evening from 6:00 PM until 7:00 PM at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church and one hour before the service Saturday afternoon.  A prayer service will be held at 7:00 PM Friday evening at the church.  Inurnment will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery near Valley City.

Melody was born to Betty and Melbourne Etzell on March 30, 1951. She grew up in Valley City and married Larry Hetland on June 14, 1975. They moved to Bowman, North Dakota, from 1980 until 1988, when they returned to Valley City. Melody worked with medical records and medical transcription in various hospitals and clinics, most recently at Essentia Clinic in Valley City. She loved to spend time with her family and friends and enjoyed quilting, watching bull riding, the Minnesota Twins, and taking trips with her daughter.

Melody is survived by her husband, Larry Hetland, Valley City, ND; daughter, Andrea Hetland, Valley City, ND; step-children, Darren Hetland, Willmar, MN, and Kristi (Dario) Molina, Omaha, NE; her mother, Betty Etzell; siblings Roger (Loretta) Etzell and their children, Sonja, Elizabeth (Andrew) Murray, and Christopher, Greenville, OH; Lynnette (Ed) Kefgen and Lynnette’s children, Jonathan and Stefan (Melinda) Wicks, Seattle, WA; Jolene (Dave) Watanabe and their children, Steven, Christopher, and Scout, Edmonds, WA; and Leah (Todd) Tangen and their children, Michael, Justin, and Jake, Kathryn, ND. 

She was preceded in death by her father, Melbourne Etzell.
